How often to change: engine coolant

Engine coolant: Long-life coolant often first at about 5 years / 150,000–240,000 km, then more often; older green coolant every 2 years.

Your owner's manual or service booklet gives the interval for your car. Severe use, such as towing, short trips, dusty roads or extreme temperatures, usually means shorter intervals.

Why it matters

Coolant's corrosion inhibitors wear out over time, risking corrosion of the radiator, water pump and heater core.
