How often to change: automatic transmission fluid
Automatic transmission fluid: Varies widely: some manufacturers specify 60,000–100,000 km, others call the fluid "lifetime". Severe use (towing, hot climates) justifies earlier changes.
Your owner's manual or service booklet gives the interval for your car. Severe use, such as towing, short trips, dusty roads or extreme temperatures, usually means shorter intervals.
Why it matters
Fluid breaks down with heat, and degraded fluid causes harsh shifts and wear.
Signs it is due
