How often to change: battery test
Battery test: Test yearly once the battery is 3 years old. Most batteries last about 3–5 years.
Your owner's manual or service booklet gives the interval for your car. Severe use, such as towing, short trips, dusty roads or extreme temperatures, usually means shorter intervals.
Why it matters
A weak battery fails without warning, usually on the first cold morning.
Signs it is due
- Slow cranking
- Battery warning light
- Start-stop system no longer stopping the engine
