Can I keep driving? Limit driving and diagnose promptly. Continued driving can cause damage, stalling or limp mode.
What to do
- Switch off non-essential electrical loads (heated seats, rear demister, audio).
- Drive directly to a workshop or a safe place; don't switch off the engine if you need to keep moving.
- Check for a broken drive belt, which can also stop the water pump on many engines.
Symbols and colours vary between manufacturers. Your owner's manual shows the exact symbols used in your car. In general, red means stop or act now, amber/yellow means check soon, and green/blue lights are information only.
