Towing & Payload Calculator
Check tongue weight, payload, combined weight and towing capacity against your vehicle's limits.
Use the limits from your vehicle's door-jamb sticker, owner's manual or registration document. Never exceed any of them.
The checks
- Tongue weight is typically 10–15% of trailer weight for conventional trailers (European car trailers often specify a fixed maximum nose weight, commonly 50–150 kg). Too little makes a trailer sway.
- Payload: vehicle weight + passengers + cargo + tongue weight must stay under the GVWR.
- Combined weight: loaded vehicle + loaded trailer must stay under the GCWR.
- Towing capacity: the loaded trailer must not exceed the rated towing capacity, and braked/unbraked limits differ.
Weigh your rig at a public weighbridge for real numbers. Local laws and licence categories also limit what you may tow.
