How to replace the engine air filter
A clean engine air filter protects the engine from dust. It is one of the easiest maintenance jobs.
Tools
- Screwdriver or socket (depending on the airbox)
- Vacuum cleaner or cloth
Parts & materials
- Correct air filter for your engine
Step by step
- Open the airbox: usually clips, sometimes screws.
- Note the orientation of the old filter and remove it.
- Wipe or vacuum out leaves and dust from the airbox. Don't let debris fall into the intake duct.
- Fit the new filter with the seal seated all the way round.
- Close the airbox and make sure all clips are secured and the duct to the MAF sensor is tight.
Safety: An air leak after the filter lets unfiltered air into the engine and can upset the MAF sensor.
