Hesitation or stumble when accelerating
A delay, stumble or jerk when you press the accelerator means the engine is not getting the right mixture or spark as load increases.
AreaEngine
UrgencyModerate
Can I keep driving? Drivable with care. Diagnose soon: performance, economy or other components can be affected.
Common causes
Worn spark plugs or ignition coils
Weak spark fails first under load.
Dirty or faulty MAF sensor
The engine computer under-estimates the air and fuels too little.
Low fuel pressure
A weak pump or clogged filter cannot keep up with demand.
Vacuum or boost leak
Unmetered air or lost boost.
Throttle position sensor fault
Erratic throttle signal.
Clogged air filter
Restricts airflow at high load.
What to check
- Read fault codes.
- Check the air filter.
- Clean the MAF sensor.
- Have fuel pressure tested under load.
- Inspect spark plugs and coils.
