How to replace wiper blades
Wiper blades harden and crack with sun and age. Replace them about every 6–12 months, or when they streak or judder.
Parts & materials
- Wiper blades of the correct length and fitting type for each side
Step by step
- Put the wipers in service position if the car has one (often by switching the wipers on and off just after switching the ignition off).
- Lift the arm away from the glass. Put a towel on the windscreen in case the arm snaps back.
- Press the release tab and slide the old blade off the arm.
- Slide the new blade on until it clicks.
- Lower the arm gently and test.
Procedures differ between vehicles. Check your vehicle's service information for specifications, torque values and any special steps.
