A/C not blowing cold air
If the air conditioning blows air but not cold air, the system is usually low on refrigerant, or the compressor is not engaging.
AreaComfort
UrgencyLow
Can I keep driving? Safe to drive short-term, but have it checked to avoid failed emissions or worse fuel economy.
Common causes
Low refrigerant
Caused by a leak; A/C systems are sealed and should not need regular top-ups.
Compressor clutch not engaging
Fuse, relay, pressure switch or clutch fault.
Condenser blocked or fan not running
Poor cooling especially at idle.
Blend door fault
Hot air mixing in; often a clicking noise behind the dashboard.
Clogged cabin filter
Weak airflow rather than warm air.
What to check
- Check whether the compressor clutch engages when A/C is switched on.
- Check the condenser in front of the radiator for debris.
- Have the system pressure-checked and leak-tested by a certified technician.
- Replace the cabin filter if airflow is weak.
